Cancún, Mexico
As a gift to our winter-selves, Andrew and I booked ourselves a trip to Mexico this month. After a week of rest and relaxation, we are back, so I wanted to share a few photos and thoughts from the trip.
We stayed at the Excellence resort at Playa Mujeres. I cannot say enough good things about the resort, and the employees especially. Absolutely incredible service. Everyone is so kind and goes out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful stay. It’s a very spacious, all-inclusive resort. This was our first time doing an all-inclusive trip, and it definitely contributes to that no-stress factor.
Another first for us: This was our first time ever doing a dedicated beach trip! Because we live near a lot of beaches, we don’t typically prioritize the beach for a vacation. And perhaps more importantly, Andrew and I are very much the adventure/culture-seeker types of travelers. So I have to admit… it did feel a bit weird for us to not be doing much, and to be taking a vacation that was really focusing on rest. It actually felt really awkward the first few days—like we didn’t know what to do with ourselves (Andrew especially!). I eventually settled into an engrossing novel (Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney), and by the end of the trip, I did feel very relaxed, but it was a challenge to stop and just be for that many days. We are both do-ers. We relax by immersing ourselves into craft projects, gardening, etc, but I do also recognize the need for rest. We don’t want to scrap the idea of beach vacations entirely, but I think next time we would both enjoy mixing in a few excursions in on a trip like this. Definitely food for thought.
Although the trip was relaxing, I can’t not mention how much Ukrainians have been on my mind this week. Like I’m sure has been the case with most of you, I have been glued to the news, reading as much as I can, checking in with Ukrainian friends, and donating where possible. I hope peace comes quickly. I stand with you.
Here are some pics from the trip. <3
