Weekly Journal: Feeling with all 5 senses
Sunday.
We spend the day planning the France itinerary, changing our minds a million times until deciding our original plan was great. Sometimes you go down rabbit holes only to find your gut was right all along.
A picked Cosmos; a couch nap.
Dinner is a perfect, homemade rustic Ragu with plenty of red wine tipped in, followed by the most luxurious 3-hour bath with a book. You know when you get the temperature just right? My body feels as weightless as the lavender-scented bubbles.
Monday.
I think it’s a covid-19 residual side effect, but I feel more present in life than I ever have. As a chronic future-addict, this has absolutely been a welcomed change of pace. Elimination of noise has made way for heightened sensation. Petting my cats is a dream for my fingertips, an ocean swim cradles and nurtures me. A creatively-considered lunch salad is an orchestra of flavor and texture. It’s all so divine.
Tonight I cut into the periwinkle silk organza.
Tuesday.
The day felt like it needed an infusion of romance, so I put on a me-made skirt and top that would be right at home in a Renaissance painting. This afternoon, Andrew and I mixed up a couple of cheeky whiskey and ginger ales, and checked on the garden. I was happy to see my Eustacia Vye rose looking much healthier after giving her some much needed space around the base. Ambridge is a blooming machine right now. My sister picked her out, so every time I see it, it reminds me of her.
Wednesday.
I stayed up WAY past my bedtime last night (no really. Like 3:30 am) to watch a ridiculous reality tv show. I hate it when I do this because it throws off my routines and mojo entirely for the next day. I’ve felt sluggish all morning, and am on a slippery slope of over self-indulgence.
I want to start sewing my silk organza top, but I just don’t have the energy. In an attempt to re-recenter myself this evening, I’ve been sipping glass after glass of water, and am curled up with my current book (My Good Life in France by Janine Marsh) with Mika in my lap, Jafar at my feet, and Andrew painting next to me at the coffee table. Bliss.
Thursday.
One of the most exciting things in life is discovering a huge backlog of content from someone who really inspires you. Today I found out that one of my most favorite creative people, Jamie Beck, has an old blog filled with hundreds (maybe thousands?—I still haven’t reached the end) of blog posts. I spent much of my day devouring so many of them, and felt so inspired and so excited about creative work. Sometimes I really need that fire—that spark of inspiration. Jamie’s work really does this for me.
The afternoon included a scoop of Raspberry sorbet and salted chocolate ice cream at the new parlor that just opened a few weeks ago. Andrew snapped a an impromptu photo of a recently finished dress in front of the Nitehawk theatre. I’m on the fence about if I like the dress. The fit is more awkward than I initially thought, but I think it’s fixable.
Friday.
A summer Friday spent sewing my silk organza ethereal dream of a top. Sewing is better on a nice, breezy day with the windows open. It’s even better with champagne. Around 2pm, I paused for a Mediterranean-inspired lunch salad. The afternoon included a garden check-in, and concluded with beers and laughs around the kitchen table with friends late into the night. Second to love, there’s no better feeling than laughing so hard you cry.
Saturday.
Started the day with a 45 minute bike ride, and then Andrew and I took a very sweaty stroll to drop off some construction materials for one of his job sites. I spent the day working on my silk organza top, and finally got a chance at a try on. You know when you’re shopping and you see a piece that you immediately fall in love with, you think it’s impractical but you buy it anyway and then end up wearing it non-stop? That’s what I feel like this top is going to be. My wardrobe is quite warm-weather inclined, and while this piece is certainly no exception, it’s nice to be working on something that will function more like a layering piece in an outfit. The top makes a statement, but will work well with so many things in my wardrobe. It’s both the main character and supporting role because it can’t be worn on its own.
