Girls Night Out in DUMBO
I wish I knew why, but last week was a high-anxiety week for me. I think I just had too many projects, commitments, and plans converging all at once. With everything re-opening to a mostly-normal capacity in New York City, I have to remind myself that accepting every invitation and taking on every single project is going to feel different now. In a word—exhausting!
I’m no stranger to over-committing myself. Having a million interests and living in one of the most exciting cities in the world will do that to a person. Pre-covid, I fit whatever I possibly could into my schedule, and I liked it that way. But during the pandemic, a forced slow down really helped shift my perspective of the value of rest and perceived "productivity.” It was a real quality vs. quantity time for me.
That seemed to be the case for a lot of people who fled New York in droves in search of more room to breathe—including many of my close friends. It’s understandable. In NYC, we do a lot of our living in the city, and not in our small apartments. So when long-time BFF Brittany announced that she was moving back after finishing her masters and accepting a new job (Yay, B!), you can imagine how absolutely over-the-moon I was when I received that phone call.
And so begins her apartment hunt—as any New Yorker will tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart. I’m so glad to be hosting her for a few days while she looks. It’s been so wonderful to spend time with one of my best friends and all the more exciting since she’ll be living here soon!
Last Thursday we decided to have a girls night out in Dumbo. We made a reservation at the beautiful 1 Hotel’s restaurant called The Osprey. If you are in the area, I’d definitely recommend it—it’s a slightly upscale place with gorgeous decor, a huge outdoor terrace area, captivating views, and an absolutely delicious menu. It’s the perfect spot to grab a cocktail and chat with a friend, or an excellent spot to celebrate occasions!
I ordered crispy brussel sprouts and a tomato, peach, and burrata salad. Brittany ordered an orecchiette dish.
After dinner and a few cocktails, we walked the waterfront in Dumbo— one of my absolute favorite places in all of NYC. The views just can’t be beat.
There are times that I’ve considered if I will leave New York City someday, and to be totally honest, I don’t really know. Andrew and I agree that home is a feeling—not a place. It’s the relationships you cultivate. And right now I love this city, so I see no good reason to leave it yet.
Feeling so much better this week after getting to spend some quality time with a best friend. The house cleaning and beach time with Andrew this weekend certainly helped as well! Hope you have a great week.
